What is the Windows action center in Windows 10 PC?

The Windows Action Center is a tool or utility in Microsoft Windows operating systems that displays notifications from different programs and applications on the systems.

Users can view alerts and updates about software support, security problems, and other issues in order to quick action or delete them if it is not necessary for your system.

In the version of Windows 7 operating systems, we used to find it as Security and Maintenance now it has been renamed to ‘Action Center‘ in Windows 10 operating systems, you can easily find this option on the taskbar and you can change the notification settings as per your requirements.

You can see the icon on the taskbar at the bottom right-hand side of the windows,  here you will find how to customize the Notifications area, all the notifications you get in the action center can be easily customized as per your needs, the reason to customize so that your action center pane doesn’t show too many notifications and you don’t get stunned by looking at those bulk notifications.

Here we will show you how you can customize the action center icon. Just go to the Settings app by pressing Windows + I keys on the keyboard, (you can see the image below) then click on the System option.

Then go and click on the Notifications & options category on the left-hand side of the Settings pane, you will get to see many notification setting options where you can easily customize it as per your requirements.

Quick Actions: In this option, you can add, remove, and rearrange your quick actions directly.

Notifications: Here you can receive or stop notifications from apps and other senders by simply clicking the ON & OFF button.

2Customize Quick Action Buttons

At the bottom corner of the action center, open the action center and you see a few quick action buttons, it includes the All settings button, Nearby sharing, Focuses assist, and mobile hotspot if you click the button associated action will be taken.

Above the action buttons, you can see the Expand link, if you click on “Expand” then it will show all the quick buttons, which you can see and customize these buttons easily.

Moving ahead just go to the Settings app by pressing Windows + I buttons, then click on the System option.

Then go and click on the Notifications & options category on the left-hand side of the Settings pane.

In the right pane, right at the top, you’ll see the “Quick Actions” section, and below you will see Edit the quick actions you need to just click on it and then Drag any of your buttons to adjust the order.

Click the “Add quick actions” to add buttons that you think are not visible in the action center just add or remove the buttons.

3) Disable Windows 10 Action Center

If you have set your mind to disable the Action center at all, then the following are the ways where you can easily remove the action center, to turn off the action center using the Group Policy Editor or Windows Registry.

We will take step by step on how to disable the action center in windows 10 with the help of the windows Group policy editor.

Press Windows + R key and open the Run dialogue box and type ‘gpedit.msc’ and hit enter.

This will launch Group Policy Editor, navigate to the tree hierarchy on the left of the pane: User > Administrative Templates > Start Menu and Taskbar.

Find the ‘Remove Notifications and Action Center‘ double click a new windows pane will open.

Switch the state of the policy to Enable to disable the notification and action center.

Click Apply and Ok to finish the process.

Press Windows + R key and open the Run dialogue box and type ‘Regedit’ and hit enter.

This will launch Registry Editor, navigate to the tree hierarchy on the left of the pane: HKEY_CURRENT_USER\SOFTWARE\Policies\Microsoft\Windows\Explorer

  • You will see Explorer just right-click on it and select new> Dword (32-bit) value and Name it DisaleActionCenter.

  • On the right end of the taskbar of your windows, select the Action Center icon.
  • Press the Windows logo key + A.
